20* C-USA GAME OF THE WEEK on Delaware -3
It's a great time to 'buy low' on Delaware. The Blue Hens are 0-3 SU & 0-3 ATS in their last three games overall. They lost on the road to Virginia and at home to Liberty, which is clearly the class of C-USA. And they were only outgained by 0.1 yards per play against Liberty so they played them tougher than the 30-14 final showed.
The Blue Hens returned from their bye and lost a 33-30 heartbreaker to Middle Tennessee on the road last week. While they will be playing just their 2nd game in 18 days and should be fresh as a result, the Missouri State Tigers will be playing their 3rd game in 13 days and will be the much more tired team coming into this one.
Missouri State has looked atrocious on the road this season. The Bears beat Kennesaw State 24-21 at home last week, which has them overvalued. Previously, they lost 34-13 at Western Kentucky two weeks ago. That loss looks real bad with just how poor WKU looks this season. And their 34-24 loss the week prior at SMU was very misleading. SMU outgained Missouri State by 353 yards.
Missouri State is really a rebuilding team this season that lost their head coach and only brought back five starters. Delaware brought back 12 starters and a 5th-year head coach. If they set this line in the preseason, Delaware would easily be a double-digit favorite. But the fact that both teams are sitting at 2-4 right now has us getting the Blue Hens at a discount.
No question the loss of QB Nicholas Minicucci has been a big reason for Delaware's struggles the last three weeks. But they are healthy everywhere else, and after failed attempts with backups Streeter and Archield Jr., I actually like what I saw from freshman Tyler Bell against Middle Tennessee. Bell went 22-of-36 for 306 yards with a 2-to-1 TD/INT ratio against MTSU while averaging 8.5 yards per attempt. He is easily their best option without Miicucci and I praise head coach Ryan Carty for turning to the freshman. He should be much more comfortable at home this week.
Delaware is 2-1 SU & 2-1 ATS at home this season. Missouri State is 0-3 SU & 1-2 ATS on the road this season. The Bears are getting outscored by 27.0 points per game and outgained by 305 yards per game in their three road games. Bet Delaware Tuesday.
20* Thunder/Spurs NBC Late-Night BAILOUT on UNDER 232
Familiarity favors defense and low-scoring games. The Thunder and Spurs just played in an epic 7-game series in the Western Conference Finals. They actually faced each other a total of 12 times last season because they also matched up in the NBA Cup. It's safe to say these teams are as familiar with one another as any two teams in the NBA coming into this season.
There hasn't been much change on these teams either. The Spurs basically return their entire team plus added Tobias Harris, though he's out to start he season. The Thunder lost Joe, Wiggins and Dort, but they brought back everyone else and are one of the deepest teams in the NBA. I think they will miss the scoring of Joe and Wiggins, which cancels out the defense they'll be missing from Dort.
These are the two best defensive teams in the NBA. The Thunder ranked 1st in defensive rating last season while the Spurs ranked 3rd. Wembenyama makes the Spurs a nightmare matchup for opposing offenses because he can defend the entire floor. And it looks as Chet Holmgren will be healthy and available for this game so the Thunder will have their eraser inside as well.
The Thunder and Spurs finished with 231 or fewer combined points at the end of regulation in nine of their 12 meetings last season. I don't expect either team to hit the ground running offensively to open the season. Defensive intensity will be high in this opener, and this total of 232 is too high as a result. Bet the UNDER in this game Tuesday.
