We really like the over in this matchup. The Fighting Illini (2-1) hit the road for their Big Ten opener against No. 7 Ohio State (2-1) in a classic conference showdown at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes' explosive attack has been in full effect early in the 2026 campaign, averaging 46.0 points per game behind sophomore quarterback Julian Sayin (839 passing yards, 6 TDs) and star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (400 receiving yards). Ohio State has scored 56 and 59 points in its two home contests this season, showing zero signs of letting up when playing in Columbus.
Illinois brings a rejuvenated aerial passing game led by transfer quarterback Katin Houser (758 passing yards, 8 TDs) and wideout Collin Dixon, who leads the team with 367 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. The Guardians (84-76) send RHP Tanner Bibee to the bump. While Bibee (6-15, 4.35 ERA) has endured a tough campaign overall, he has historically stepped up his game against Kansas City, holding a career 3.32 ERA across 11 appearances against them. With two starting pitchers who know how to navigate these opposing lineups, expected run creation should stay muted throughout the early and middle innings.
